UGSH Honors Key Figures of Albanian-American Media in New York: Awards for Legendary Journalists

This Saturday, a notable event for the Albanian community in the USA took place in New York, organized by the Union of Albanian Journalists in the USA (UGSH, USA Branch). The hall of the “Zoja e Shkodrës” Church gathered representatives of the Albanian-American community, journalists, writers, religious representatives, diplomats from the Embassy of Kosovo, as well as our USALB TV team, which was present and filmed the entire proceedings.

The activity began with the solemn intonation of the anthems of three states: that of the USA, the National Anthem (of Albania), and that of the Republic of Kosovo.

Screening of the Documentary “Dom”

The central point of the evening was the screening of the documentary “Dom.” This production, directed by Bujar Alimani and scripted by journalist Dritan Haxhia, was dedicated to the forty-year life and activity of one of the community’s key figures, the priest Dom Pjetri.🏅 Distinguished Journalists Honored

A particularly emotional moment was the awards ceremony. The Union of Journalists, USA Branch, honored with certificates several well-known names in Albanian-American journalism who have made invaluable contributions over the years:

  • Frank Shkreli
  • Idriz Lamaj
  • Virgjil Kule
  • Gjek Gjonlekaj

These professionals were recognized for their precious contributions to journalism and media, both in Albanian and American outlets.

Greetings and Participation

The evening was organized and directed by the UGSH Chairman for the USA, Dritan Haxhia, and coordinator Elona Paja Biba. The meeting also received a greeting from Tirana, from the UGSH Chairman, journalist Aleksandër Çipa.

Greetings were also extended by Dr. Pashko Camaj, secretary of the Pan-Albanian Federation of America “Vatra,” who congratulated the organizers on the event’s significance, and the candidate for the American Congress, compatriot from Kosovo, Diamant Hysenaj.

The evening, which included surprises, concluded with the shared wish for the continuation of such successful activities. From this event, USALB TV, which followed and filmed the entire proceedings, will soon broadcast a detailed summary as part of our show “IN & OUT ALBANIA.”
